Larceny of a Cheque.—The charge
against G.eor«e Waters of having stolen a checjue for £10 from the person of James Noian, ab the Toka Toka Motel, Northern Wairoa, occupied the attention of the Supreme Court during the whole of yesterday afternoon. In summing up the case His Honor commented on the very uuKUtisi'actory nature of the prosecutor's evidence, in the lower Court, and in his examination yesterday, he alleged that tho cheque was stolen from him while he was asleep after he retired to bed, bub on beinj; pressed ha swore for the first time that he had an interview with the prisoner outside the house before he went to bed, and that he saw the accused snatch the cheque from his pocket.—The jury brought in a verdict of guilty on the second count against, the prisoner—that of receiving the cheque knowing it to be stolen.—Ab Mr O'Meagher's request, sentence waa deferred till t'O-uay.
