THE WAIKATO SEAT.
MEETING AT HAMILTON,

The larsreab and mosfc representative political meeting ever hold in Waikato took place yesterday at Ohaupo, to consider the question oi appointing a successor to Mr Bryce in Parliament. Mr Lang, Chairman of the Waipn County Council, occupied the chair. I counted 100 settlers present, all of whom may be looked on as representative men of their various district?. Mr John Fisher, convener of the meeting, spoke tirst, and eulogised the Hon. John Bryce, supporting and approving of his action during the recent events in Parliament, lie asked cottiers present to give their opinion on \h Bryco's action and hoped they would endorse them. 11 r Fisher proposed that Mr E. Lake be selected to succeed Mr Bryco aa member, and he stated that if Mr Lako was elected temporarily lie (Mr Lake) would, if Mr Bryce was willing to stand .again, retire in his favour. Hβ said that all. electors felt certain that Mr Kryce would not stand again until the vote of censure passed by fcho House was rescinded, and he feit sure that euch a vote would not be rescinded, at any rate until after this election was past. A large number of settlers spoke on the matter. The following resolution was' passed, without one rlissentient :—"This meeting; of Waikato electors entirely approves of Mr Bryce's action and the position he has taken up ; that they still have confidence in him ; and that they request that ho will allow himself to be again nominated ay the representative of the Waikato electoral district in the House of Representatives." The Chairman is to wire this resolution to Mr Bryce. It was also proposed that Mr Lake be asked to stand for the vacant seat. Mr Lake stated that he would be willing to stand it' requested by the electors, and would resign in favour of Air Bryce at any moment). A committee of about) thirty was chosen and lists made out immediately for signature requesting Mr Lake to stand. Pending reply from Mr Bryco, there is no certainty yet as to the final arrangements for the election.
