THE JUMPER SATYR.
I learn froai a private cablegram that Satyr is quoted at 20 to 1 in Melbourne for Mio V.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Race. The Auckland jumper was among tho starters for the Hurdle Kaca ab Sydney Tattersall's meeting, bub failed to gain a place. His name was not mentionod in the betting. Anenb the race, the " Referee " says : — " The New Zealand gelding Satyr is a big: MJuna: follow, and the pace ho put into the race at the start impressed not a few that he can gallop quite as well as jump. Satyr led for a mile and a quarter, when his condition Sailed him, and Tho Mason t ook his place
and held the lead to the home turn, where Nankipoo relieved him, and coming along alone from this out won as he liked by ten lengths from The Mason, with Myrtle an imliii'erent third. Time for two miles, 4min 2sec."
