MINING.
The following have passed the Mine Managers' Examination at Wellington : — J. Crawford, W. J. Home, J. Carter, W. Fleming, W. Baker, Thames ; F. Vialoux, Coromandel; and J. Snow, Auckland.
A meeting of the Bonanza Kuaotunu Goldmining Company was held on June 10 for the purpose of appointing directors. The following gentlemen were elected :— Messrs McGregor, J. Phillips, Wilson, Clayton, Robson, Bridgman and Fenton.
The Puhipuhi prospectors' amalgam for a week is 2,2200z. The battery only worked three and a-half days owing to the want of water and an accident to the pulveriser. Over a thousand ounces of silver have already been retorted from a part of the amalgam on hand.
A meeting of shareholders in the Lucky Hit Goldmining Company, Kuaotunu, was held on May 28 at Mr B. Gilmer'a office, Victoria Arcade. The directors' report stated that the country was a little better for working, and looked well for gold. The statement of accounts as submitted showed a credit balance of £99s8d. Messrs Erickson, Hanchard, Bridgman, Hawfchorn and Kaesing were elected directors.
The battery of the Great Mercury Proprietary G.M. Company, at Kuaotunu, has been started. At present 10 heads of stampers are working, but foundations have been laid for double that number. The official opening took place on the afternoon of June 17th,
