NATIVE LAND LAWS COMMISSION.

Hawera, this day. Tiif Natiyo Land Commission -visited Tβ Whiti ab Parihaka on Thursday: In tho course of conversation with Tβ Whiti and tho chiefs, Mr Roes explained thab the appointment was the outcome of a desire on the parj) of tho Government and Parliament to remedy the grievances complained of by the Maoris generally with respect to lands, and this, therefore, was a specially favourable opportunity of making their voices heard. Tβ Whiti eaid the Maori chiefs year after year had been petitioning Parliament, bub nothing seemed to be done. Mr Eees rejoined that Parliament was convinced by these petitions that something was required to be done, and had appointed the Commission to mako full inquiry. Circulars in Maori, setting oub portions of the evidence given by influential chiefs, together with an explanatory statement of the Commissioners, wore then distributed. Tβ Whiti afterwards entertained the Commissioners and staff at tea.
