THE LEADING WIND FIRE.

Sin, —In your account of the inquest on the tiro on board tho ship Loading Wind Mr Hughes, Snperirtendent of bho Auckland Fire Brigade, is reported to have said : "Prior to this (the removal of the vessel from the wharf) ho wont to Captain Burgess, Harbour Master, who supported the statement) of Capt. Fisher that there was 36 feet of water at the whurf at high water." If your report be correct Mr Hughes must ha labouring under a misapprehension, otherwise ho has deliberately stated what is incorrect. The depth of water where the ship was berthed is on:y 26 feet; at high wator—lo feet less than stated by Mr Hughes—a material dilfercnco when considered in connection with scuttling tho veasol at tho wharf.—l am, etc.,
