ANGLO-COLONIAL NOTES.

(FROM OOR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.)

London, March 21. DEATH OF MR DAVID HEAN. I mdch regret to announce the death of Mr David Hoan, erstwhile of Auckland, who succumbed to an attack of hemorrhage of the lungs ab 26, Motcomb-street, Belgravo Square, on Tuesday last, the 17th inst. Mr Hean had been in poor health for many years past, and when in 1889 he undertook the onerous task of reporting to the directorate of the Bank of New Zealand upon the condition of their affairs in the colony, it was freely predicted in the city he would not live to get through the job. Nob only, however, did he (Mr Hean) acquit himself of his difficult and responsible task in a masterly manner, but he absolutely returned from New Zealand looking very much better. In tho floating of tho Estates Company, Mr Hean took an active part, and it vraa nob till last autumn his health seriously failed again. For some time he had been seriously ill ; indeed, the officials ab the Bank tell me he was expected to die woeke ago. On Saturday last the sick man returned from Hastings, whore he had been staying. Probably, this journey was fatal, as soon after his arrival in town Mr Hean grew rapidly worse, finally succumbing on Tuesday. The funeral takes place to-day at Dundee, Mr Hean's native town. PASSENGERS. Mr Sydney and Mr Walter Buller left England for "Now Zealand by last week's Orient boab, and mean, I understand, to settle in Wellington. Amongst the passengrer3 by the Tainui, which Fails to-day, are: Sir O. Hall, K.C.M.G., Mr W. C. Nimmo, Rev. A. C. Blaker, and Dr. and Mrs Guinness. PERSONAL AND GENERAL. I much regret to announce the death o' Mrs J. S. Macfarlane, relict of the late John Sangstor Macfarlane, a well-known Auckland citizen, which occurred on the 7th met., at Ealing. A foabure of the new weekly "Emigration," the initial number of which appeared on the 21sb inst., was a bhoroughly capable article on New Zealand by Dr. Laishley, of Auckland. It is a pity this paper was nob sent to the "Nineteenth Century," where it would naturally have obtaiued a much larger circle of readers.
