THE LEADING WIND.
WRIT AGAINST CAPTAIN HINCKLEV.
The much-vexed question of the recent fire amongst the cargo of the now-noted ship Leading "Wind, in Auckland Harbour, is not yet at rest. A new phase has now just been entered on in connection with the average adjustment on the vessel's cargo in consequence of the iiro amongst her flax freighting. Messrs Shandon and Company, of Christchurch, merchants, who were shippers of part of the Leading Wind's llax cargo, ha ye served a writ of arrestment through their Auckland solicitors, Messrs Heskoth and Richmond, on Captain F. M. Hinckley, late master of the ship. This firm object to the average adjustment as arranged, and claim that (..'attain Hinckley should bo prevented from leaving the colony at present. Ho had intended to leave here with his wife for San Francisco by the 11.63.5. Alamoda to-morrow.
It ha.s been arranged that the question of arrestment shall be argued at tho Supremo Court at 10 a.m. to-morrow before the Registrar. The flax in question, for tho loss of which Messrs Shandon hold tho captain responsible, was not damaged by the tire, but by the water which was poured into the ship to quench the Barnes on January 22 last.
