COMING DOWN IN THE MONDIAL
At last playgoers in these colonies are, it seems, to have an opportunity of seeing and hearing for themselves the renowned actress, the "divine Sara" Bernhardt, The mail-boat Mariposa, which arrived here this morning from San Francisco, brought amongst her passengers Mr H. E. Abbey, a -well-known theatrical inipressarw of New Yorkj who has just engaged Mdlle. Sara Bernhardt for a dramatic tour in the Australasian colonies.
Mr Abbey has ab various times had many noted stage " stars " under his wing on tour, and last .year he had Adelina J'atti, the famous prhna donna, Under engagement in America. Sarah Bernhardt is how in San Francisco, where she opens ab the chief theatre to-night in, probably, "LaTosca." The queen of tragedy, it will be remembered, arrived in New York only lately from Europe, on an American tour, and she has now decided to come on to the colonies under engagement to Mr Abbey. ■ Ifc is riot certain whether she will appear in the colonies in her latest dramatic sensation " Cleopatra," bub she will play "Camille," "La. Toaca," and several other of the choicest plays in her extensive repertoire. She will be accompanied by a *very strong company, whose forte will of course be tragedy. They will all comedown hereby the i1.M.8. Monowai, which is due here on the 22nd pi-ox, from San 'Francisco. The Company go on to Sydney at once, and open there or in MclI bourne. They will probably visit Now Zealand, bub this all depends on how well the pieces take in Australia. The whole Company return to 'Frisco by the August) steamer.
