"PICTURESQUE ATLAS" DEFENCE ASSOCIATION.
This morning a first meeting of the delegates of the " Picturesque Atlas " Defence Association wns hold ab Hurst and Co.'s office. Nine delegates were present, representing the city and surrounding districts. Mr James Muir waß voted to the chair. It was proposed by Mr It. U. Webeter (of Pukekohe), seconded by Mr D. Crawford (Wairoa South), and carried that a levy of 5s per member be collected from the members of the Atlas Defence Association to meet preliminary expenses, and that further subscriptions be raised if necessary. Mr J. Muir (of Auckland) was appointed as hon. secretary and treasurer to the Association, andaLegalCommittee was appointed, consisting of Messrs Earle, Dalziel, Webster, Muir, Kirkbride, and Crawford, to obtain legal opinion in regard to the subscribers' position. At the termination of the meeting, the Legal Committee waited on Mr A. E. Devore with reference to the whole matter.
