MINING NEWS.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Woodstock.—The manager reports that the tributers have on hand 8 tons of No. 1 ore, which they say is worth £100 per ton, and about 33 tons of No. 2 ore, valued by them at £40 per ton. Tho No. 3 lode is again making into a fine body of stone at the low level.

Lady Carrin'gton.—The manager reports that us he can pan silver and a little gold out) of the tailings he has stopped carting any more ore to the babtery. He does not consider thab the pans are suited to Kuaotunu ore as at present worked, because a percentage of the gold gets away without coming into contact with the mercury. Owera. —The manager reports that the reef at No. 2 level averages 2ft (iin to 3ft and gives good payable prospects all the way down the winze. The reef in the face is fully sft from wall to wall, and prospects well. He considers that no time should be lost in erecting a battery.

Pride of the Hills.—The manager reports thab he can see a gold in the stone and geks good prospects by crushing. He considers the ore from the rise payable.

Lonjb Hand.—Crushing will be com menced early next week.

(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Tiiamks, last nights. Within the pact few days mining matters have shown a most marked revival. This satisfactory state of affairs has been principally brought about by the eycellent prospects met with in sinking the winze and carrying along the leading stope on the croea reef in the Hazel bank Company's mine. The crushing of 35 loads of general dirt and the picked stone thab had accumulated up to date—about 1501b— was, as briefly mentioned in a previous telegram, finished to-day for the handsome yield of 2150z retorted gold, which was eubsequently melted into an ingot, weighing 2120z. In the bottom of the winze the reef is at present about 18 inches in thickness, and still looks very promising. The lode is now being stripped, and no further breaking down will take place for a day or two. The reef in the leading stope also looks well and shows colours and dabs of gold freely. The Saxon Company's mine also manifests an improvement so far as the operations at No. 6 level are concerned. It is just possible that after all it was not the No. 2 break thatwas met with on Saturday last, but this question cannot be determined for a day or two. The reefs in the face 6asb look really well, containing splendid mineral indications, and occasionally producing a few picked stones. About 51b of nice stone was obtained from the drive on No. 1 reef east this afternoon, while No. 2 lode also showed good dabs of the precious metal. The Moanataiari mine does not present any material change to report; quartz of the usual payable grade is coming to hand. , . In the Success mine it is probable that driving on the reef will be suspended for the present-, and the drive pushed ahead to cut other reefs which traverse the ground. The drive being driven in the Orlando mine towards the Calliope has now just) about reached tk® te&*«t esrapany's boundary.
