NEWFOUNDLAND RIOTS.
THE SAYWARD SEIZURE.
Sb. John's, April 21. The Newfoundland fishermen have attempted to evade the provisions of the bait laws, but the vigilance of the police prevented it, and a serious riot resulted. Washington, April 21. The Supreme Court has further postponed the consideration of the appeal from Canada for annulment of the seizure of the Canadian schooner W. P. Sayward, which was taken while sailing in the open sea in 1887. London, April 21. The delegates from Newfoundland will on Thursday next present their petition to the House of Lords protesting against the passing of Lord Knutsford's Bill for enforcing the modus vivendi with France.
