OUR GOLDFIELDS.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS,

Caledonian.—The rise at No. 2 reef at No--2 level is now up a distance of 20fb. There ia about 18 inches of good solid quartz on the hangingwall side of the rise, and under thia there are rib 3of quartz, and mineral veins, running through the mullock. Tho quart*, on the hangingwall side is carrying nice mineral, and i 3 kindty looking for gold. The drive to the westward of the crosscut,, on Ryan's leader ab No. 3 level, has been, cleaned out to the face. The branch leader' that was mentioned as striking into th* right hand side of the drive turned oub to be very small, and seeing this I deemed it best to clean out tho drive to the end to get at the main leader, which is almost six. inches in bhickness, and of a very promising, character. As good gold was taken out of this leader some time ago, and as there ia,. a block of ground here intact for some distance, which, if worked, in all probability will be found to contain gold in payabla quantities, this leader has now been • stripped for a distance of six feet. In the drive on No. 2 reef at this level, two men. have been engaged in shooting into the footwall side of the.lcde,,as it appears as if the principal part of the quartz waa in thia side. The reef here contains a considerable quantity of mineral, but it is of a very hard nature and not easily broken out/ Souvenik (Kuaotunu). —In this claim a fair amount of work is being done, and;, they hope soon to be able to get a crushing from the Invicta reef. A large amount oi driving has been done to try and develop other bodies of stone ; but the manager has now decided ib is better to work on the reef itself, from which golden prospects have been obtained. Some little distance back it was over 2 feeb in thickness. As ib got into the harder blue country, it was. considerably pinched up, but is now nearly ay to its widest width and very promising in appearance. They should havo very little difficulty in arranging for crushing, being.situated so near the main road.
