NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.

At 8.30 a.m. on March 10 the breakfast in connection with the annual meetings of tho New Zealand Alliance for tho Suppression of the Liquor Trallie was held in the social room at tho V.M.C.A. Looms. Thero was a largo attendance, tho tables being presided over by a committee of ladies belonging to the Women's Christian Tomporance Union. When the repast was concluded Sir William Fox, tho fiesidonb, made a low remarks, after which short addresses wero delivered by Mr W. Glover, organising agent of tho Alliance, bhe Rev. W. Williams, who is in town attending tho Wesleyan Conference, the Rev, H. W. J, Miller, pastor of tlieCongregational Church, of Onehunga, and Mr Shepherd, of Port Albert. Council. uleetino.— Ab 2 p.m. tho Council of members of the Alliance took placo in the lecture room oi the Y'.M.C.A, Buildings, when there was a fair attendance Sir William Fox presiding. Annual Report.—The fourth annual report was read by the organising agent, Mr Glover, lb stated that Mr Glover and tho Rev. E. Walker had been acting a3 agents for the Alliance with marked success. The Committeo recommended tho re appointment of the Rev. E. Walker. During tho year prohibition literature had been dis trio v ted, over seventy thousand leallots having been spread abroad. Financially, matters were not so satisfactory, as tor tho first timo in tho history of tho Alliance the year closed with a debit balance. Tho deficit in revenue was caused by tho fact that during the year the collections ab public meetings did not como up to those of the previous year. Reference was mado to the retirement of Mr J. Newman from tho position oi lion, secretary, and thanks accorded for [last services, it was also mentioned that tho press was pervaded with a tone of much greater fairness, and much more knowledge was discernible in the articles of the ordinary press when dealing with tho proposals of tho Alliance.
