There was nob a large field for this event, but the threo yachts which came up to start gave promise of a reaily good race. The Wiipu was h'rsi; under weigh, closely followed by the I\loana, with the Tawera last, and nearest the wharf. All carried spinnakers, and made very fast time on the run down the harbour. Off the Victoria Wharf the Jlapu and Moana appeared to be on pretty even terms, while the Tawera still brought up the rear, and in this order they disappeared round the North Head, bound round a mark-boat at Rangitoto Reef. On tha first trip round the course the Moana on the wliolo appeared to have the best ot it, but coming up the harbour to I pass the flagship for the tirst time, she appeared co get more of the ebb tide than tha Mapu, which consequently secured a good load, and passed tho flagtsliip aS 12.30, about a minute ahead of fciio Mo.aua, which was second, while the Tawera waa almost on her quarter.
