The Employers' Association met yesterday. The Committee reported thab 130 firms or single employers had joined, representing all interests. Tho manufacturers of tho Association employed 6,500 hands, and had refused to recognise the ilaritime Council in present negotiations for bhe prevenbiou of sbrikos in future, as thab body had connections with Australia, and was responsible for the present difficulty. They refused to meet Millar, as ifc was impossible to dissociate him from the Maritime Council. Tbo action of the Executive was approved, and a general feeling expressed bhab ib would be wise bo meeb bhe delegabes of tho various Unions, for the purpose of putting future operations on a more satisfactory basis. A Stevedoring Association has been formed, nob wibh a view to making profit, but to carry on tho work of the porb in a satisfactory manner. The shareholders restrict themselves to a dividend of six per cent., any balance bo profit to be utilised for the benefit of employers, or to form a reserve fund. Tho subscribers to the memorandum ot the Association undertake to employ the Company as stevedore?, or obtain their labour through the Company. The subscribers represent the principal shipping companies and merchants of Christchurch. " Only a small proportion of shares will bo available for subscription by the public.
