KUAOTUNO GOLDFIELD.
MR MITCHELSON INTERVIEWED.
A deputation of mine managers and others interested io the Kuaotunu goldfield interviewed the Hon. Mr Mitchelson lasb Saturday at Loram's Hotel. Mr Cadman introduced the deputation and Mr Cameron acted as spokesman. The deputation asked Mr Mitchelson to give a granb towards metalling and widening the main road. Mr Mitchelson expressed himself as favourable to the grant, and said no doubt the Government would do something, and promised that the matter should be attended to. Another request was that the Government should geb the Railway Commissioners to give rails for the tramway. This was, however, declined. With regard to the guarantee given for the salary of the postmaster and cost of belephone, bhe guarantors asked to be relieved of their responsibility. Mr Mitchelson said he could not do thab at presenb. The nexb requesb presented was that a local officer should be appointed to receive notices of pegging out. Mr Mitchelson said he thought thab mabber mighb be arranged. The deputation nexb wanbed the Government to take over the Whangapoua Block from the Kauri Timber Company, but Mr Mitchelson declined to make any promise upon thab subject.
