TAKANAKI V. AUCKLAND.
TARANAKI REPS. ARRIVED,
By tho s.s. Gairloch, from New Plymouth, the Taranaki representative footballers arrived afc Onehunga yesterday afternoon. They were met ab the wharf by Mr G. Dixon, secretary of the Auckland and Rugby Union, and a number of players ftnd others, and wero at once conveyed in brakes to town. At about α-quarter to four they arrived at the Imperial Hotel, where they will put up during their stay in Auckland.
The names of the team are :—Oliver, full-back; A. Bayly, Hempton, and A. Good, three-quarceV backs ; W. Bayly and C. Bayly, half-backs; forwards, Tate, Pearson, Sangsbcr, Barford, Lye, W. Good, Lambie, Livingston, aud Old. Emergencies: IT. Good and W. G. Malone. The team is accompanied by several friends. Mr Major, secretary of ttio Taranaki Rugby Union, is manager. On the handsome black and gold banner of the Union are inscribed the victories obtained over Auckland in 1887, and the Englishmen in 1888. The visitors are a fine, active-looking lob of young fellows, and should give a good account of themselves on Saturday. Most of the members of the team visited the Opera House last evening. A drag has been placed at their disposal by the local Union, and this morning they were driven out to Epsom to indulge in kicking practice.
Ab 10 o'clock this morning the team was photographed at Bartlett's studio by Mr F. W. Edwards. The Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union met last evening. It was then agreed with the Tarunaki men that Mr T. Henderson shall bo referee in Saturday's match, Mr T. Maeky will umpire for Auckland, and Mr Major for Taranaki. The Auckland men are all in steady training, and will to-night hold their last practice in the Zealandia Rink.
" The Cannon's Mouth " went fairly wel ab the Opera House last evening, and there was a good attendance. The principal performera, including Mr Travers-Vale and Miss Howarde,were loudly applauded, and were recalled ab the close of one of the acts. Mr Miln occupies the Op6ra House tonight, but on Monday evening the TraversVale Company again take the boards and produce for the "first time in Auckland "Golden Hearts," ft production which is eaid to be well worth seeing.
