TEE RAILWAY REFORM LEAGUE.
We are informed that the Railway Reform League baa had several communications from M.ELR.'s now in Wellington, most qfwhom admit that there hap, been delay on the part of the Committee which has been appointed by the Housrj, in proceeding to business on the consideration of Vaile's scheme. Amongst the members who ha% written during the three or four days are MrT.ThompsonanriMrß.Monk, M.EL.R.'e. One of these gentleman saya he is not all surprised ab tha petitioners wondering at the great delay that has arisen. "Every thoughtful man may well ask—What is Parliament coming to ? It has been sitting nearly seven weeks, and only two comparatively unimportant Bills have been passed." Others write complaining at the conduct of the Committee in not at once eummoning Mr to give the additional evidence he is prepared to give, if he ia allowed the opportunity of doing bo in the ordinary way, before a Parliamentary Committee. In order that the petitioners and public generally may understand the latest action taken on this subject, we publish the following telegram sent by Mr S. Vaile to the Chairman of the Railway Rates Committee:—
Auckland, sth August, 1890.— J. G. Harkness, Esq., M.H.R., Wellington,— The Railway Reform League has this day posted a letter to you. Without intending any disrespeot I wish to Bay that I intend to adhere tq the position therein taken up, and you will be good enough to accept this as my reply to your lettOT of 3lsb July,—(Signed) Samuel Yaile,
