t ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Last- evening a largely-attended general Mteeting of members of the newly-formed Gum fetoremen's Union of Auckland was held m the Temperance Hall, Albert-street MrDeason presided. After various preliminary business the meeting proceeded to the election of officers for the ensuing term, SI w «re chosen :-President Mr Robert White ; vice-president, Mr C b. Robinson; secretary, Mr R, Peacetreasurer, Mr W. Blott; auditors Messrs Robertson and A. Smith ; Committee, Messrs Myers, Lawson, Double, L-lements, J Smith ; trustees, Messrs F J&ylor, C. Smith, and Corles. Mr Mills President of the Auckland* Trades andlAbour Council, was present and made a lew remarks impressing on the members Ot the Union the necessity of all ■working amicably together for the common good, and of the body exercisinomoderation in its demands on employers* ■they should not ask too much or be unreasonable, for their employers had to bo thought of. He hoped they would see their way to affiliate With either the Trade and Labour t/ouncil or the Maritime Council, and he explained the responsibilities and privileges pertaining to such affiliations. Ab the conclusion of his brief address Mr Mills was accorded » hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. Before the meebing.closed it.was decided to hold future meetings regularly, monthly, and bo hold a epecial general meeting to discuss the Union ralea and other matters in the same place on Friday evening next. It is stated that this Union wilf be nearly or quite 200 members strong shortly. A large cumber enrolled their names last evening.
