DEATH OF CAPTAIN HELGESON.

A WELL-KNOWN SHIPMASTER GONE; News has just been received in Auckland of the death, in London, of Captain Helgeeon, commander of the Dunedin barque Alcestis, and a very well - known New Zealand shipmaster. The news of his unexpected decease will be received with surprise in Auckland shipping circles, as he was a man in the prime of life. For many years ho was engaged in tho New Zealand coastal trade, and was popularly regarded by shipping people as one of the smartest hands oi the day at stowing timber cargoes. Nine or ten years ago he was in command of the topsail schooner Annie Wilson, running in the coastal trade, and later on ran the brigantine Uamille, of which he was part owner for six or seven years. Recently, he left the Camille at Kaipara, and joined the barque Alcesbis, formerly Auckland-owned, in Dunedin, as master, and took her Home. Bo had bought a share in the Alcestis. He leaves a widow in Dunedin, but it is nob known whether he had any family.
