Burns was caught by McGregor, bowled by Attewell. for a prettily pub together 19. Barrett, who carried his bab, scored sixtyseven in a very careful and long innings, during which tho bowlera were changed constantly. There- wore two extras, making a total'for tho Australians of 176.

The wicket was in excellent order, and some brilliant play was witnessed. Abtewell took 1 wicket for 5 and Peel 5 for 59._ Ulyebb was pub on, bub failed to disconcert the Australian batsmen and wa3 taken off withoub scoring a wicket. Only eleven runs were. however, made oil his bowling. Lohmann took 3 for 28 ; Grace, '2 for 12; and Barnes, 1 for 10. The pcrsisbanb blocking and careful play of Ban-ebb necessitated bho constanb change of bowlers, bub bho Melbourne man treated all comers alike, never appearing to hit at anything in any way dangerous. Hia play commanded univeral admiration.

Tho Englieh started their second innings, Grac9 and Shrewsbury going to tho wicket. Tho latter was soon oub for a rapidly put togebher 13. Gunn then joined the champion, and tho pair are still at bho wicket, bhe score being Grace 40, Gunn 13. Later. Tho English won by seven wickets.
