BATGER ESTABLISHES A RECORD
The third ineebing of the Wellington Amateur Club was carried out successfully on the Basin Reserve, on Saturday last, though there was not a large attendance of the public. J. M. King, from scratch, won the 100 yards race (10 3-sth sec), the 250 yards (26 2-sth sec), and ,440 yards event (52 2-sbh sec), and he also won the Jong jump with 17 feeb 3 inches. C. J. Hiokson, 120 yards, wou "the mile walk in 7min 35 4-sth sec. The other events were:—High Jump : C. Richardson, sft, 1. Mile Handicap: C. J. Cooper, lOOvds, 1; Guy Williams, 75yds, 2. Time, 4min. 48 3-sth sec. Mile Bicycle Race :A. L. Pratt, 100 yds, 1. Time, 3min 48 2-sth sec. Three Mile Bicycle Race: A. L. Pratt, 300 yds, 1. Time, 13min 4sec. 120 Yards Hurdle Race : G. Johnson, scratch, 1; Charles Gore, owing 20yds, 2. Time, 19 3-sbh see. Pole Jump: J. E. Hume, 9ft 9Jin, 1. During the afternoon H. W. Batger established a record for the 120 yards hurdle race. The distance was chained, and the time was taken by three watches. Gore, with about 20 yards -tarts, was sent as pace-maker, but at the finish Batger left him as he pleased and completed the distance in 15 3-5 sec. This was the time recorded by two of the watches, whilst the third showed one-fifth above ib. The weather was fine, wttb a light wind against the runners.
