WAITEMATA GIG CREW.

DEPARTURE FOR DUNEDIN.

By the Takapuna this afternoon the Waitemata Champion Gig crew goes South to Dunedin to take part in the Champion gig race at the Exhibition regatta next Saturday. The men will arrive in Dunedin about Thursday, so that they will have some time to get over their sea voyage. They will probably journey overland from Christchurch. They take with them the new gig built for them some weeks back by Mr C. Bailey, the local boatbuilder. She is a splendid boat, built of kauri, and has considerably surprised those who thought Auckland could nob turn oub a gig. The crew will be chosen from : T. B. O'Connor, M. Keefe (stroke), J. Barrett, J. Collins, R. Moore, and W. Bailey, probably the first five. The crew has been very successful of late years in Auckland in both gig and whaleboat races, and the men are pretty sure to give a good account of themselves. The Poverty Bay boys this morning donned the Waitemata colours, and proceeded by train to Onehunga to give the Auckland reps, a hearty send off, and wished them success in their endeavour to uphold Auckland's reputation In the South. Cheers were also given as the train left the Auckland station.
