SPORTS AT TUAKAU.

A IjAKGB assemblage of local people, supplemented by many visitors fi'om neighbouring settlements, met at Tuakau on Saturday, to take part in or witness the comprehensive series of sports which the Athletic Society's Committee had ably compiled on this, the occasion of thehsecond meeting. The Committee is to be congratulated upon. its successful management, and the detail of the day's amusements, each item of which appeared to highly gratify the spectators. The heat was sufficiently great to render MrsMarks's tempting array of fruit and other creature comforts indispensable, whilst tho contiguity of "mine inn" to the scene of operations was a consummation devoutly blessed, as Host Brown's Bourbon and substantials were revealed and disappeard before the capacious maw of the thirsting and hungered many. Mr Marks placed his paddocks at the service of the Society, and the thanks of the cricket and football clubs are certainly duo to him for often acts of courtesy of the same character* The usual games on the green were entered into with zest by the young ones, and the following is a condensed list of the sports : —
