SCHOONER DAISY LOST.

WRECKED AT HAAPAI.

A Stab extra issued on Saturday afternoon gave brief particulars of the loss of the schooner Daisy, an Auckland-owned Island vessel, nt Hiiupai, in the Friendly Group, on the ISth ultC From particulars supplied by the crew and Captain Sopwith, who arrived from Tonga by the steamer Wainui on Saturday, it appears that the Konto reef, on which the schooner struck in a hard squall on the-night of the 18th, is marked on the charts much closer in to tho shore of the island of Lifuka than it really lies. Greit soas were breaking over the vessel when the crew leit in their boat, and she aEtarwards broke up. The captain and the six men who comprised the crew had a rough time , in the whaleboat on leaving the wreck, being all night in the boat threading their way tbronph innumerable corai reefs to the port 'of Lifuka, They lost moat of their effects in tho schooner, but were fortunate in reaching shore safely. Capt. Sopwith sold the wreck to some of the Haapai natives for & small sum. The Daisy was one of Messrs McArthur and Co.'s ileet of Island trading vessels, and had left Auckland some five months ago for the Islands'. At time of her wreck, she was bound in ballast from Nukualofa (Toiifratabu) to Haapai to load timber for Samoa. Although she had no cargo on board, her owners will be at considerable loss by her wreck. She was a well-found little vessel of 53 tons register, and was only two years old, having been built at Whangaroa by Lane and Btown in 18S7.
