AUSTRALIAN CRUISERS.

THE IRIS AND CORDELIA

It is stated in our cablegrams from London that H.M.s. Opal, at present in Auckland Harbour, is expected to be replaced on the Australian station by H.M.s. Iris, and thab H.M.s. Calliope, of Samoan hurricane fame, recently ordered home, is to be replaced on this station by H.M.s. ' Cordelia. The Iris is a 13 gun screw cruiser of the second-class. She i 3 3,730 tons measure* Went, and her engines are 7,330 h.p. She is commanded by Lieut. HerbertH. Heathcote. The Cordelia is a 10 gun screw cruiser of the third class, 2,380 tons register, with engines of 2,400 h.p. The Cordelia is in command of Captain Harry T. Granfell.
