BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The ordinary meeting of the above body was held this afternoon. There were present : — Messrs Upton (Chairman), Carr, Monk, M.H.R., Luke, D. Goldie, M.H.R., Lennox.

Chairman's Report.—The Chairman's report stated that the Alexandra Committee bad been informed that arrangements would be made to have school and dwelling painted. Misa R. S. Thompson has resigned the position of assistant at Ellerslie. Leave of absence has been granted to Messrs F. P. Burton (illness), J. S. Collhoun (private business), H. Bates, and others. Various other routine business has been transacted.

Agricultural Teaching. — The consideration of the introduction into the schools of Mr Murray's "Book of the Farm" was then taken. Several opinions were read on the book, and in general these opinions were favourable. The desirability o.permitting the book to be used in the schools was then discussed, but the discussion gradually dropped into a conversation on the possibility of farming profitably in New Zealand. Mr Upton moved, "That special authority be asked for the use of thia book in Auckland."—Mr Goldie seconded the motion. —Carried.

Auditor.—The appointment of anaudifcer for the school fund accounts was then considered. Mr Durrieu was appointed.
