THE GAME SEASON.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I'oseibly you or some of the numerous readers of-th© Star, can inform me why it is that in protecting; the cerlu (New Zealand snipe) the season for killing them is made to commence with other game, viz., May Ist. The cause of my inquiry is this : The season when the biids are at their prime i« February and March, and the season w-hen they are thin and leaving the country to breed, May to November. Now, air, if my statements are correct, would ifc nob be more wise to make the reason from January to March, inclusive, when the birds would be plentiful and in good condition ? By expressing your opinion on the subject I should esteem it a great favour, and beg to remain,—Yours, etc.,
Sportsman.
