REAR-ADMIRAL SCOTT.
Rear-Admiral Lord Charles T. M. Douglas Scott, C.8., successor to RearAdmiral Fairfax, C.8., took over the command of the Australian naval sbation last week. The Admiral arrived ab 11.15 a.m. on Monday by the R.M.S. Carbhage from London, and on his flag being hoisted on the Orlando the usual salutes were fired by H.M.s. Royalist, the German warship Alexandrine and the colonial warship Wolverene. Having visited the at Melbourne and made the usual inspection, the Rear-Admiral did not board the flagship, but proceeded direct from the mail boab with his family to Admiralty House, his Sydney residence, where he remained during the day. , Lord Charles Scott was ■in command of H.M.s. Bacchante in 1881, when she visited Ausbralia wibh bhe two sons of the Prince of Wales on board as midshipmen. He received the decoration of C.B. in 1882, and in the following year again visited Australia, when he married Miss Ada Mary Ryan, daughter of Mr Charles Ryan, of Melbourne and Mount Macedon (Victoria). He was A.DC. to tbe Queen from June, 1386, to April, 1888. The Admiral has lately been attached to one of the Navy steam reserves in Britain, and was created a Rear-Admiral last year.
