ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES.
A woman of respectable appearance occupied the dock <_» the Police Court this morning. Her name Was Mary Malcolm, and she was cliarged with having, on tho 11th of September, at Auckland, unlawfully and knowingly by certain false pretences, to wit, a letter or order purporting to be signed by one Thomas'Webb, obtained of and from Robert Hannah I pair of girls' lace boots, 1 pair of children's boots, 1 pair of ladies' lace boots, and one pair of ladies' shoes; total value, £l4s6d. - Mr Theo. Cooper appeared for the defendant, and pleaded not guilty. Inspector Broham asked that the case should be remanded until the 23rd instant, which was granted. Mr Cooper asked for bail and said that Misa Malcolm was very respectfully connected in the Kaipara, and could; get substantial bail. : , > . ; .Inspector Broham said tbafc in fixing the bail it should be mentioned, that there were likely to be several .similar charges laid 'against the same prisoner. Dr. Giles fixed the bail at £50 for the accused and two sureties of £25 each.
