THE NEWTON BOROUGH.
FINANCIAL POSITION.
At the meeting of the Newton Borough Council last night the Mayor said that the Finance Committee had prepared an estimate of receipts and expenditure up to the 31st of March nexb. Tho receipts were estimated at £422, and the probable expenditure would be £603. Thab would mean that. they would be considerably to bhe bad at the end of the next financial year, and would require an overdraft of say ££00 to carry them on until the next rate was due.
Cr. Riggs considered the return very satisfactory seeing that they had purchased the land, built Council chambers, and inaugurated a fire brigade.
Cr. Brown moved tbe adoption of the report. H'_ was glad bhab their financial position was so good, because it must be remembered thab something like £700 had been expended on outside work. The reporb was adopbed. The Mayor said that their annual expenditure would be decreased by about £40 for renb of offices, as they had now their own chambers.
