ARRIVAL OF THE WAINUI.
After a fine round Island trip of nineteen days, the Union S.S. Com.pany's steamer Wainui, Capt. Crawshaw, made her appearance round the North Head about 6 o'clock last evening from ncr usual South Sea voyage to the Sanjoan and Tongan Groups, and berthed at the Queen-street : Wharf to discharge her freight. Her tropical cargo consisted of full consignments of oranges, copra, etc., and a quantity of guar.b. She brought a number of passengers, ixom her various Island ports of call, inchjetfeg two in transit for Sj'dney. The Wainoi has bad a pleasant trip, fine ■weather, with light, variable winds, being , experienced throughout. The steamer's j purser,. Mr A. C. Walker, who favours us with particulars of tho passage and with late Saraoan files, states that the Wainui, after leaving Auckland at 6 p.m. on the 25th nit. and coaling at Opua (Bay of Islands), left Russell on the 26tb, at 5 p.m., for the Tongan Group. On the 30th at 10 a.m, she sighted the hills of Pylstaart Island, off Tonga, and at 7 o'clock next morning she came to an anchorage in Nukualofa Harbour, Tongatabu. Here she landed freight and passengers, and left again at five o'clock that evening. Next day she called at th© Haapai Group of islands.and thence steamed up to the Vavau Group, reaching there that evening at 7.45 p.m. In Neiafu Harbour, Vavau Island, she landed some freight, and-, left on the 3rd inst. for' Samoa. On the sth inst., at 6 a.m., she reached Apia Harbour, and remained ft- anchor there for two days,,
All was quiet in the town of Apia when she left. The only warship lying in the harbour was the German vessel Sophie. The United States storeahip was still lying at Pagopago (Tatuila). On the 7th inst., at 3 p.m., the Wainui made her way out of Apia, after havine landed and loaded various cargo, and left again for Vavau, in the Tonga Group. Boscawen Island was in sight on the morning of the Bth inst. At midnight that day the steamer again anchored in Neiafu Harbour, where she loaded a large quantity of oranges. Leaving again at noon next day, she called at tire island of Tuanuku, close by, where she took on board some 600 sacks of copra. At 10 a.m. on the 10th instant, she reached Nukualofa Harbour again, and after embarking mails, passengers, and cargo, she left finally for Auckland at 4 p.m. same day. At 11.30 p.m. the steamer passed Pylsfcaart Island, and after a fine run down sighted the Poor Knights at 10 a.m. yesterday. Tiri was abeam at 5.10 p.m. and the steamer berthed at the wharf at 6.30 p.m. She made the passage down from the Tonga Group in four days. , :
