ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held in the Block Houee lasfc evening. Presenb: The Mayor (Captain M. Yates), and Crs. Jackson, Tapp, Hastie, Burden, Keehan, Austin and J. Shaldrick.
Correspondence.—Letters were read as • follow: From W. Stevenson, drawing the attention of the Council to the over- : growth of furze and the impassable condition of Arthur-streeb West.—Resolved that property-owners be notified to clear the furze complained of. From J. .'Johnson, asking the Council to allow him to break an additional hundred yards of blue , metal.—Matter deferred to next meeting. From Mr Brookfield, drawing fche attention of tbe Council to the dangerous state of Mount Smarb Road, and suggesting fchafc a quantity of scoria ash be put on the road ■ to fill in the deep ruts.—Resolved that the Streets Committee be empowered: to put on tho road one hundred yards of Three Kings scoria ash, and that one-half fche cose bo charged j to the One Trhe Hill Road Board. From ! the Christchurch Ciby Council, notifying - that their Bill had failed to pass in the : House of Assembly, and requesting the; Council to ask their member to support fche proposal of their Council.—Moved by : the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Jackson,.' "Thafc Sir G. M. O'Rorke be requested to support the proposal of the Christchurch. City Council to induce fche House •jbo amend the Municipal Corporations Act so _s to enable municipalities to establish their own gas works." Sir G. M. O'Rorke wrote stating that the Onehunga Cemetery Bill was blocked from going into Commitbee last week, but would go into Committee next Thursday. _ Blue Metal. —Mr E. Bray offered to sell -, to the Council several yards of blue metal ! afc 5s 6d a yard. P. McCarthy offered to sell 50 yards afc the same,price.—Both! offers were accepted. Tenders. —Two tenders were received . for the supply of the requisite fire brigade ] appliance.—Mr H. W. Fowler, £10.; D. ! Wilkinson, £103 5s ; the tender of D. Wilkinson was accepted. Borough Fund.-—Credit) balance, £1,172 19s. Several small accounts were passed for payment. Petition.' —A petition bearing the signatures of several burgesses asking the Council to form a footpath in Princessstreeb Eaefc was referred to the Streets Committee, to report at next- meeting.
Reports.—The Street Committee recommended that fche upper part of Springstreet be formed and gravelled. —Resolved that the recommendation be carried out afc the earliest opportunity. The Reserves Com:mittee recommended, that tho Council invite tenders for the lease of allotment afc Geddes Point) tor a period of one year.— Recommendation agreed to. The Council resolved fco advertise for tenders for the borough printing and advertising.
