The Railway Department have written to the City Council stating that the Commissioners could not provide further accommodation with regard to running daily trains to Waikomiti Cemetery at reduced rates. Tho Commissioners were prepared to continue running the Sunday train regulai-ly to Waikomiti only, but not to make any reduction in the fares.
On Easter Sunday morning the choir of Holy Trinity Church, • Devonport (reinforced by several friends and wellwishers) gave a very impressive choral service for the especial benefit of the prisoners employed on the bill at Fort Cautley. The building had been neatly decorated with flowers, evergreens, etc., for the occasion, and there were nearly 100 persons present in all. Several appropriate hymns were given, the different eelections (including a solo by Mies Bartley) being heartily appreciated by the prisoners, who desire to convey their thanks for the kindness prompting such a thoughtful act. Mr Wooloy, the principal warder, deserves more than a passing meed of praise for his efforts to conduce to the. comfort of all.
