MR CHADWICK AND THE GROCERS' ASSOCIATION.
(To the Editor.)
Sib, —In response to Mr Chadwiek's challenge in lasfc evening's Star, I have much pleasure (with the owner's povmission) in handing you the letter referred to for publication. Whether lie called us robbers or not I leave the public to judge.—l am, etc., Hy. Hjswiif.
Dear Sir, —I regret to say that wo cannot do business together any longer. I will not accept tho Grocers' Association prices for my produce, and will nob allow them to control the price of it. Though butter is scarce, and the grocers have to make up deficiency by purchasing from the dairy companies at Is, they dole us out Bd. Eggs sold at auction on Friday for Is lOd to '2,3, and they quote Is 7>d. They have been selling eggs at 2s 6d during the week, and the poor producer gets Is 3d. Do they think thafa we are going to submit to such barefaced robbery? Men who can be guilty of such infamy ought to be mobbed in tho streets. I hope this will lead to some I united action on the part of the farmers to resist such tyranny, and place the whole produce business on an entirely different \ footing. If the farmers were not a set of blockheads they would not tolerate such a state of things. A move is being made, however, that will assuredly change all this, and of which you will hear something more soon. This is the last straw which proverbially breaks the animal's back, or causes him to strike out. lam afraid my action will be some inconvenience to you, but I cannot submit to it any longer.— Yours, etc., John Chadwick. ?ukekohe, March 20fch.
