FATAL FLOODS.

Westport, this day." While crossing Fox's River, between! Brighton aad Charleston, on Saturday ■morning in a chair, the rope broke and three occupants were thrown into the stream and carried out to sea by the flood running at the time.
They were named William Ryan, aged 50, John Nevin, aged 12, Margaret Nevin,, aged 5.
The bodies have not been recovered,
A heavy rain flooded the rivers on Friday and Saturday, but no damage was caused. It is fine to-day.
Greymouth, this day. Very heavy rain has fallen here and fcfta river bank is high. ,'■■■- Word from Ahaura reports a likelihood of a stiff flood there, but the weather is breaking. '
The tramway manager at Teremakau wires :—" Flood at Teremakau. No cage traffic. Scott Bros., contractors, lost 30 feet of cylinder, donkey engine, monkey and 160 feet staging besides all loose gear."' During Friday night last four and a-half: inches of rain fell in six hours. Ouly once in many years has a similar heavy fall beea known.
