The County Council have received an intimation that the Minister of Mines has authorised a grants of £500 for tho construction of the Marototo Road to the Thames County. It is stipulated, that the road must nob be less than 12 feipt wide, nor the grade more than-1 in 15.

Scarlatina is somewhat prevalent at Jpresent.

Application was recently made by the Counicy Council to the Minister of Mines for a* grant of £2,000 towards renewing <khe water race 30 inch mains. The Minister has replied promising to submit the matter for consideration by the Government, but points oue that there is no power to grant tho request without a special vote of Parliament.

At Danedin R.M. Courb to-day, the action Havord v. Sutherland was dismissed. It was for recovery of £200 damages for alleged assault by defendant (a schoolmaster} on the daughter of plaintiff.

Inquiries having been made at the Coun* cil Chambers for the valuations under the property tax, Mr Philips, the Town Clerk, telegraphed to Mr Sporrey, Property Tax Commissioner :—" Gazette, January 28th, states property tax valuations deposited with local authorities on 27th. At this date, March 7th, nob received here." Mr Speruey replied : " Telegram received. Do not purpose depositing Auckland borough statement values, it not being necessary, as borough does nob adopt the Act of 1882." This Act provides for valuations being takeui evoy three years.
