NEW CEMETERY FOR AUCKLAND.
It is pretty generally admitted that a mistako was made in fixing the site of Auckland Corporation Cemetery bo far out aa Waikomiti. The distance entails a loss of time and money which poor people can ill afford, «nd makes the otherwise excellent grounds very inconvenient and unsuitable as a place of sepulture. In the grand future, when Aucklfund city shall extend from the \Vaifcemata to the Manukau harbour, and from the Tamaki to tha VVhau creek, the Waikomiti Cernofcery will be a satisfactory and convenient place of burial; but for presenfc-day requirements, it is felt that a more accessible burying-ground should besecuredagainst the time, not far distant, when the Symondastreet cemeteries shall be entirely closed. Moved by such considerations, Mr J. Aitken Connell has called a meeting of residents for this (Friday) evening to consider proposals for securing the desideratum. Mr ConnelPs reputation for liard-headedness and sagacity provides a guarantee that no mere crude and undigested scheme will be laid before thia evening's meeting. •
