VOLUNTEER NOTES.
THE ENCAMPMENT.
The Waitemata Naval Artillery still remain in camp at the North Head, and the men are busily engaged perfecting themselves in the intricacies of big gun drill and other branches of military knowledge. Yesterday afternoon they were employed for some time, under the direction of Cuptain Kitchens, guard mounting and relieving and visiting sentries, while from 7 till 9 o'clock instruction in the manipulation of the big guns at Fort Takapuna was given by Sergeant-Major Silver. This morning, the corps paraded before Captain Kitchens for inspection of arms, &c. Out' post duty will occupy the time from five to six o'clock this evening, and big eriu drill will form the evening's work. RIFLE ASSOCIATION. The following Auckland representative have already been chosen for the New Zea land Rifle Association meeting at Blenheim : — A Battery : Sergeants Paislow and Doughty, Lumsden and Taylor and Sergeant Henderson. City Guards : Lieut. White, Sergeant Stirling, .Volunteer Osborne, Volunteer Hay, and Volunteer White. The Onehunga Rifles by Lieutenant Lundon, Colour-Sergeant McGregor, Sergeant Wall, Corporal Tapp, and Volunteer McCarthy. Royal Irish : Lieutenant Tobin. Victoria Riiies: Sergeant Fairs. Civilians : Mr Gribbin (late of the Gordon Rifles). Seaman Weir s Thames Navals. TORPEDO DRILL. The Auckland and Ponsonby Navals to the number of about 70, proceeded to Devonport last evening and'underwent a course of torpedo drill under the direction of Captain Powell. The instruction was ab once useful and interesting. THAMES REPRESENTATIVES AT BLENHEIM. Thames, this day. As usual Gunner Weir, of the Naval Artillery, will be the only representative from the Thames at the New Zealand Rifle As- j sociation meeting at Blenheim.
