SPORTING NEWS.

TO-MORROW'S RACES AT POTTER'S PADDOCK.

The Onehunga Racing Club will provide lovers of the turf with a capital afternoon's sport to-morrow. There 'arc eight events on the programme, including a steeplechase, trotting match, and pony rtfee, so ,pn the score of variety there can be no cause of complaint. The Tramway Company announce that through tickets will be issued (including admission to the course) at Is 6d, and cars will run at frequent intervals. Out of the nine that figure on the card for the Onehunga Cup, Balista has the most taking appearance on paper, and Recruit should be the hardest to beat in the Hurdle Race. The first race starts at one o'clock.

Owing to the success of the Summer Meeting, the Committee of the Auckland Racing Club intend slightly increasing the added money of two or three of the races at the Autumn Meeting, and the Easter Handicap will probably be increased 50sovs. There is some talk of the dates of the fixture being altered from Easter Saturday and Monday to the Monday and Tuesday. If the Club carry this into effect, I feel certain that they will make a big mistake. With a holiday from Good Friday to Monday, it could hardly be expected that the most enthusiastic to turf-goer or visitor from the country would be able to find time to put' in an appearance on the Tuesday, while Saturday is a general half-holiday. The Committee meet on Monday to consider the matter, when I hope that the good sense of the majority will prevail and keep the dates as at present iixed. At the Taranaki races, yesterday, Pretender failed, to get a place in the Hurdle race, won by Armourer, and Escutcheon went down before Marlborough in the Midsummer Handicap, to whom he was conceding lOlbs, Clogs finishing third. Katterus rode Marlborough.
