CHARITABLE AID REFORM.

(BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

Dun'ijdin, this day. The committee on charitable aid reform report that their inquiries gave no evidence of the serious abuses indicated by Dr. Mac. Gregor. On the contrary, they assert that in tho management of tho Benevolent Institution and Charitable Aid Board the public are being served with fidelity, and recommend combined efforts on the part of voluntary organisations for the establishment of a society to secure the interchange of information and advice respecting the distribution of charitable aid. They call attention to the necessity of the Legislature taking steps to check pauper immigration. They think a useful if modest measure of reform might be carried out by hearty cooperation amongst those who now minister benevolence, and the reduction of overlapping and of relief to paupers by any degree would tend to defeat professional mendicancy.
