ATHLETIC NOTES.

FOOTBALL,

Thk. sports to be held in connection with the Auckland Poigby Union, which were postponed from last Saturday owing to the rain, will come off to-morrow afternoon afc Epsom. The various events give promise of close finishes, and there is sure to be some very interesting racing. The fancy costume match, which starts at 4.30, will be a great feature in the afternoon's sporfc, as ifc is a novelty for Auckland. The first event, on the programme—kicking the football—is to start afc half-past one. During fche afternoon, the seuior and junior cups, won by the Grafton and Selwyn Clubs, are to be presented to the successful teams, together with the caps thab go to the individual members.

At a meeting of the Committee of the Cricket Association held on Wednesday, the following entries were received for the Cup contests this season :—Senior Cup: Auckland C.C., Auckland United C.C., Gordon C.C. : First Junior : Auckland 2nd, Auckland United 2nd, Gordon 2nd, Wanderers, Alpha, Ponsonby, St. Mary's. Second Junior: Wanderers 2nd, Auckland College and Grammar School, Alpha 2nd. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Association is to be held next Tuesday evening to consider these, and further entries will b« received up till that date. At this meeting of the Committee a proposition from the Parnell City Club will be considered. That club finds that it cannot raise a team sufficiently strong to compete in tho senior cup and they are too strong for the juniors; they therefore wish to be allowed to play in the senior cup matches, and instead of eleven have fifteen in their team. The Cup, matches will probably commence on the afternoon of to-morrow fortnight.

The soft-good warehouses are to have a married v. single match to-morrow on No. 4 wicket. The following are the teams : - Married: Logan, Hollo, Colgan Gilchrist, Goudie, Vicary, Rogerson, Veale, Taylor, Jackson, Baker and Jameson. Single : Meldrutn, Brown, Tommas, Chatticld, Sneddon, Bunby, Smith, Ryburn, Newcomb, Button, Johnston, Jones, Taylor.

Owing to the Football Sports to-morrowi the opening run of the cycling branch of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club has been postponed. It will come off on Saturday week. SWIMMING.

A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a swimming club in this city was held last evening at Lester's Rooms, Pitt-street. There was a large attendance, Mr VV. Moore occupying the chair, and the names of several others not present were handed in as being willing to join the club. It was unanimously resolved to form the " Auckland Swimming Club," the colours to be dark blue and white, and the costume—University. Mr J. M. Brigham was elected president of the Club, Mill. Nicholson secretary, and Mr W. H. Peters treasurer. A committee of Messrs A. Gold water, J. W. Browne, and W. Moore was appointed to inquiie as to what arrangements could be made about the public baths, etc , and to repoit at another meeting to be held next Tuesday evening ab the same place at 7.30. The annual subscription was settled at a very low figure, and as such a club has been wanted in" Auckland for a long time past it is sure to have a strong membership before

long. The following crews of the West End R.C. have been selected to take part in the races on- Saturday, the 2Cth inst., for trophies presented by Messrs Carrollo, F. Edwards, and W.
