Saxon.—The country in the winze being sunk from No. 4 level is rather tight, but fair progress is being niade. Three shifts are employed in this work, but it is not intended to break down any of the quarlz until the winze holes is through to No. 5 level, as'the manager desires to effect communication as soon as possible. Cambria.—The No. 1 leader met with in the rise at No. 4 level is 8 or 9 inches thick, but very little quartz has yet been broken down.

The Newton and Royal.lrish Rifles will hold a joint church parade on Sunday. They meet at the Ponsonby Reservoir, and will be accompanied by Hunters Band. The Newton Rifles are to attend Alexandrastreet Church, while the Irish Rifles proceed to St. Patrick's Cathedral.

There was a good demand for horses at the weekly sales to-day, and good prices were realised. It is expected there will be a further rise in prices.
