PRESIDENT OF WELLINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON THE PROSPECTS.

Allusion to the disclosures in connection with the Bank of New Zealand was made at the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, by the President, who said that although the effect of the report of the committee of investigation would be felt both here and at Home, he did not for one moment believe that the credit and commerce of the colony would be permanently injured. The revelation was a sorry one, and one which the people must feel humiliated at sending Home as the result of the doings of our greatest financial institution. The position, however, had happily been faced and something better might be hoped for in the future. He could not help thinking that the release of many properties on the books of the Bank would assist in the settlement of the colony and compel many businesses to go into liquidation which had long been considered by ligitimate traders to be in an unfair position, \
