BANKRUPTCY ADMINISTRATION.
(by telegraph—own correspondent.)
Wellington, this day. An interesting return, showing the revenue from bankruptcy during the two financia years 1887-88, and the amount charged on account of administration, has been pre* pared to the order of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. 'The; revenue during the two years amounted to £22,950 made up as follows:—Fees in Supreme Court, £7,753: fees in District Court, £5,630; percentages on estates, £9,567. The cost of administration is put down at exactly the amount of revenue received, viz., £22,950, made up as, follows :—Expenditure charged against the vote for bankruptcy, £ls,oso;'DistrictJudgeßroads salary and expen«es, £2,292; proportion of salaries of judges* registrars, etc., £4,000 ; cost of auditing accounts, for which no charge is made against the estates, although the Act provides for, it, £1,000; rent of offices, printing and stationery, £500. The return was laid before the Chamber at its quarterly meeting to-day, and the president (Mr J. H. Cock) pointed out that it was manifestly unfair that the whole of the salary of Judge Broad,- who was called upon.to deal with other matters than those reTating to bankruptcy, only should be : charged against the revenues.
