The weather was beautiful, and the wicket in capital order. The match was not played out, bub was greatly in afvour of the Englishmen,.,'who made 88 in each of their innings, while Canterbury made 54 in one. The principal feature of the match was the splendid batting of Shrewsbury, who mads nearly half the runs gained by the Englishmen, gave few chances, and hib hard. Stoddart also played in very good form.. The fielding of the Englishmen waa ex-: ceedingly good. The Canterbury men were evidently out of form, and their wickets fell fast before Lillywhito and Stoddarb and Paul. H. M. Reeves played with care and judgment, as did Rayner and Labbatt. The fielding of the local men. was generally good, though some very easy chances were missed. The following was the score :—
