• Dunedin, this day. A semes of competitions for the purpose of selecting five men to represent; Otago at the Centennial Meeting ab Melbourne in November next began to-day, twenby-five men baking parb. Martini-Henri rifles were used, but the sun was shining strongly at. the firing moond, and prevented brilliant shooting afc 500 yards, bub McCarthy (City 6-uatde) mado 33 out of a poesible 35 at 600 yards. Sergeant KenipsteW (West Taieri) put in 32, while Sergeant Frederic (North Dunediu) made five consecutive bulls-eyes.
