AN EXPLANATION.
It will be remembered that during the past week Mr Mcßrido was charged at the Police Court with having committed a broach -at the Employment of Fefmnls Labour Act. Mr S. Hosketh appeared for the defendant, and happened to quote an opinion purporting to have beon given by Dr. Giles, R.M., during the adjournine'nt of the Court. Prior to commencing the business at tho Police Court this morning Dr. Giles referred to the caoe,' and said thtit ho caw by tho newspapers that Mr Heslceth had made a statement in Court in which he had quoted what purported to be an opinion given by him to Mr Hcskebli. He wished to 6tato that he gave no such .unqualified opinion as it appeared reported in the papors, ibut /a much moro qualified oije. ~ Ha thought that his name ought nob to liave boon mentioned-In-suob a manner. Tho Bench might •W6l' consider him to hayebecn inipertinent if. he had 'interfered that way inacaso by sending down an opinion through the counsel.for the defendant*' Ho r thought that if was placing him in a false position, though: ho was cmifo sure: thai, Mr1 Hesketn hadtio thought of doing knowingly that whidh was imprbpor.;..„ Still it >vasunwise to/ have mentioned hie niirab in the matter.'
