ON THE ERIE.

; The Chicago freight train on .the Erie road .wrecked by running into rocks wasted upon tlie tracks near Port Jeryis on August 13th. The express train from New York crashed into ; the wreck, and .the baggage, mail, smoker and one day coach and a car-load of horses were thrown. down ah embankment; j eighty feet and took lire and burned.: The passengers were all saved. Alexander Newman, fireman of the passenger train, was caught in the wreck, arid, though hot seriously hurt, was held fast till burned to death. John Kinsell, the engineer, was scalded, probably fatally. Quite a stir; was created in sporting circles by the news of the fatal accident to the valuable horses owned' by; the firm of Lapgtry and jGebhardt. Ten horses, of the aggregate value of $100,000, were killed in the collision. Mrs Langtry% $500 white English bulldog, togecher with several young terriers, were also sent'with the horses. The bull-; dog, curiously enough, refused accommo: dations in the car and insisted on accompanying the fireman in the cab, The dog could not be induced to leave his new friend's side and was crushed beneath the engine, while the.fireman was frightfully scalded. i
